Why is a Bernedoodle the ideal pet?

Our dogs want nothing more than to be with us every step we take. Sitting on our laps is even better! The standard poodle is valued for its highly intelligent, calm personality and its extremely low to non-shedding, hypoallergenic qualities. The Bernese Mountain Dog is known for its striking beauty, affectionate behavior, and unending loyalty. Combining these two magnificent breeds to create our beautiful Shaneybrook Bernedoodles has given us the best of both worlds.

How can I soothe teething for my new puppy?

Puppies will be teething during their first few months. This can be uncomfortable for them during this time. Providing your new pet with teething toys can help soothe their discomfort and help avoid unwanted chewing on your belongings.

How much exercise does a Bernedoodle need?

Taking your puppy on daily walks is highly recommended. This will burn off excess energy and prevent boredom. Because the Bernese Mountain Dog grows very quickly, it is recommended that you do not allow your puppy to engage in excessive strenuous exercise for long periods of time until they are approximately one year of age. This will give their bones the necessary time to develop properly. It is best to speak with your veterinarian for professional advice.

What is included in the purchase price of our puppies?

We have been removing rear dew claws on our puppies.  However, there has been some controversy over whether this practice is beneficial or not.  As more research is done on this topic, veterinary advice will be continually updated.

A binder with important veterinary records containing the puppy’s shot information and health status will be given.  Helpful training tips will also be inside.  We want the very best for our puppies at Shaneybrook!

You will also receive a small bag of puppy food to take home. If you decide not to purchase the same brand of large breed puppy food as Shaneybrook, please do not abruptly switch foods. Add small amounts of the new food to the puppy food provided by Shaneybrook. This must be done gradually over approximately one to two weeks in order to allow the puppy’s digestive system to get accustomed to the new brand of food.

A blanket rubbed with the mother’s scent will also be given to take home with your new pet.  This can be a comfort when you transition your adorable puppy to its new surroundings.

How should I socialize my puppy?

A training class is a great environment for your new pet to meet other dogs and learn how to socialize.  In addition, having a well behaved pet will provide a more enjoyable relationship. It will also be a great time for you both to bond and become best friends!

How soon should I take my puppy to the vet?

Before we allow any of our pups to be sent home with their new forever families, they will be health checked by our veterinarian and current with all vaccinations. A health record will be provided to you to make sure your pet has a successful start to a healthy life. However, you must take your new puppy to the vet within seven days in order for the guarantee to be valid. Additional shots will be required throughout their first four months to fully protect them from any harmful diseases (rabies, Parvo, etc.). After this time, annual veterinary visits will be necessary to remain current with immunizations and heart worm prevention.

The Bernese Mountain Dog originated in the mountains of Switzerland as a working dog. They love the cold weather. Please keep this in mind if you live in warm climate. Although your bernedoodle is part Bernese Mountain Dog and part Poodle, you may need to bring your furry friend into an air conditioned environment during extreme heat.

What is the difference between F1 and F1b?

We are currently breeding F1 and F1b pups. An F1 litter means one parent is pure bred Bernese Mountain Dog and one parent is pure bred Standard Poodle. This F1 puppy will have 50% Bernese Mountain Dog DNA and 50% Standard Poodle DNA.
An F1 puppy can be bred back to a poodle, which would then produce an F1b. An F1b puppy will likely have more than 50% poodle DNA and will probably have more poodle characteristics.

What do I need to buy before my puppy comes home?

You will need a place for your new puppy to be safe and comfortable. A crate can provide a secure environment and also be a useful tool to help house training.
You will need a water bowl and food bowl.

You will need to purchase a high quality, grain free puppy food for large breed puppies. We recommend ProPak or Merrick.

Having a few puppy toys is always a good idea, but the most IMPORTANT thing to give your puppy is lots of love and attention!
